The toughest part of trying to recover from alcohol and drug problems comes during this stage when a number of issues make it difficult to focus on learning to live a sober life and make trying to stay clean and sober a struggle. It is the second of four stages of recovery or rehab defined by the National Institute on Drug Abuse: Treatment initiationEarly abstinenceMaintenance of abstinenceAdvanced recovery Treatment Issues If you have entered a specialized alcohol and drug treatment facility or you are getting professional help from a physicians office or outpatient clinic, you will work with trained addiction specialists, which can include counselors, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. In the early abstinence phase of your treatment, they will help you recognize the medical and psychological aspects of alcohol and drug withdrawal, identify triggers that prompt you to use drugs or alcohol, develop techniques of avoiding triggers and learn to handle cravings without using. Following are some of the issues that your counselor will try to help you with during the early abstinence stage of recovery: Addiction and Associated Symptoms If you have sought help to quit drinking or doing drugs, chances are you have developed some level of chemical dependence or addiction to your drug of choice. Your counselor will help you identify behaviors you have exhibited that could be considered addictive, such as how much time and effort you have put into pursuing your drug and your continued use in spite of negative consequences. Your counselor will also discuss the health effects that can be caused by your substance abuse, and by your withdrawal from it. If you were an intravenous drug user, for example, your counselor will try to determine if you have engaged in other high-risk behaviors and if you may have contracted the HIV virus. As with all of these treatment issues, the goal of the counselor is to educate you about the risks and dangers so that you can begin to make more healthy choices in your life. Relapse Triggers Its likely that during your substance abusing days you associated your drinking or drug use with certain people, places, and things. Perhaps you always stopped by the same bar or you only used drugs when around certain people. You may have had a favorite glass you drank from or a favorite crack pipe. All of these can be triggers that can cause you to relapse. It is absolutely critical to your continued abstinence that you avoid the triggers and other high-risk situations. Your counselor will help you identify the people, places and things that you associate with your drug use and help you develop strategies for avoiding these triggers. The caseworker or counselor will also help you learn to develop alternative responses to high-risk situations when they do occur, such as someone offering you drugs or being in social situations where alcohol will be served. Filling the Time If you are seeking help for an alcohol or drug problem, you probably spent a great deal of time with your drug of choice. One of the symptoms of addiction is the amount of time the drug use assumes in the users life. Many addicts organize their entire daily routine around obtaining, administering, and recovering from the effects of their drug. Once you quit using, there will be a void in your daily schedule and/or a sense of loss. You may be used to a daily schedule that is chaotic and disorganized, due to your drug pursuits. You may find it difficult imagining what you will do now that you are no longer using drugs. Your counselor will work with you to develop a daily or weekly schedule to help you begin to structure your time and to replace your drug-seeking and using activities with healthy alternatives. Order and structure can help to lessen the risk of relapse. Craving and Relapse Not everyone experiences cravings during early abstinence, but for those who do, it can become overwhelming. Craving is a strong urge to return to drinking or using drugs. Craving can be both physical and psychological to the point that you can become obsessed with thinking about using again. The counselor will help you recognize what craving feels like and learn that it is temporary and will pass. More importantly, your counselor will try to help you learn that you have choices; you can choose to sit the craving out. You do not have to respond to the urge in a self-damaging way. The longer you remain abstinent, the fewer cravings you will have and the less intense they will become. But if you give in to the urge, they will remain strong. Social Pressures For many alcoholics and addicts, their entire social life revolves around their drinking buddies or drug-using friends. After you enter recovery, you may find that most, if not all, of your friends were other alcoholics or addicts. These friends can put a tremendous amount of pressure on you to relapse. They may not want you to recover, because if they accept that you are an alcoholic or an addict, that means that they probably are, too. Consequently, they may blatantly or subtly try to sabotage your recovery. Your counselor will strongly encourage you to avoid your old friends at all costs during early abstinence. You will be encouraged to make new, sober friends. You will also be encouraged to participate in support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, where you can develop positive relationships with drug-free and recovering people. Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms The physical withdrawal symptoms from quitting alcohol and drugs go away in a relatively short time, usually less than a week. But many alcoholics and addicts will experience long-lasting changes in mood, affect, and memory throughout early abstinence. Symptoms can include anxiety, depression, sleeplessness and memory loss. These symptoms are known as post acute withdrawal symptoms. If you develop any of these symptoms during your treatment, your counselor will try to help you realize that they are the result of your alcohol or drug use and are not independent, fundamental problems. You will learn that these symptoms cant be self-medicated and will only become worse with further drug use. And like cravings, they too shall pass. Use of Other Drugs You may decide that you are really only addicted to your drug of choice, although you frequently use another drug or drugs as well. If you used cocaine, for example, you may not consider your alcohol consumption to be at a problem level. Or if you were a problem drinker, you may consider smoking marijuana to be less harmful. During your treatment, your counselor will encourage you to achieve total abstinence. Here are the reasons that total abstinence is critical to your recovery: Other drugs, such as alcohol, can trigger a craving for your drug of choice. You might transfer your addiction from one drug to the other. If you continue using, you will not learn how to cope without mood-altering aids. Although your current use of other drugs may not currently be a problem, if continued, they could quickly become substitutions for your drug of choice. Getting Through Early Abstinence This stage of recovery is not easy, which is why few manage to accomplish it without help. If you are in a professional treatment program, you will receive support and encouragement you need to make it. You will set and meet goals that are necessary for your continued recovery. Your counselor will help you establish a drug-free lifestyle that involves participating in support groups; avoiding social contact with drug-using friends; avoiding high-risk situations and triggers, and replacing your former drug-related efforts with healthy recreational activities. You will be given the tools you need to live a clean and sober life. Return to The Four Stages of Recovery

Employee ownership in the organization is missing. They just want to do their own work and get paid for it. They are not too much interested in the performance of the company and this is the reason why organizational culture reflects easiness. Lack of commitment is also a part of the company s culture. This is because employees know that they will not be rewarded as a result of their hard work but will be rewarded if they have political support. Rewards are important to enhance the performance of the employees (Linder, 1998). But the rewards system is not good for the company. A Man for All Seasons Moreââ¬â¢s Moral Stature Essay
A Man for All Seasons: Moreââ¬â¢s Moral Stature In some literature, a characterââ¬â¢s moral stature plays an important role. In the play, A Man for All Seasons, by Robert Bolt, no other character comes close to Moreââ¬â¢s moral reputation. Thomas Cromwell and Richard Rich do not compare to Moreââ¬â¢s moral stature because both Rich and Cromwell lie, while Rich accepts bribes and Cromwell does anything King Henry VIII tells him to no matter what it is, and they will do whatever it takes to get what they want. More on the other hand, would not lie no matter what the consequences would be, he would not accept a bribe under any circumstance and he would never go against his morals. Sir Thomas Moreâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Norfolkââ¬â¢s comment ââ¬Å" . . . he was the only judge since Cato who didnââ¬â¢t accept bribes!â⬠(Bolt 58) confirms Moreââ¬â¢s friends know that he is not the type of man that can be bought. Sir Thomas More will not accept bribes because he is a moral person. Furthermore, More has a better moral reputation because he would not go against his beliefs no matter what anyone threatened to do to him. Sir Thomas feels that his beliefs are most important and need to come first. More resigns due to his beliefs, ââ¬Å" . . . If the Bishops in Convocation submitted this morning, Iââ¬â¢ll take it offâ⬠(Bolt 48). Also, More tells Cromwell that he is going to follow his conscience even thought he knows that he is going to be killed for it. More states this when he says, ââ¬Å"And when we stand before God, and you are sent to Paradise for according to your conscience, and I am damned for not doing according to mineâ⬠(Bolt 78) This shows that he is putting his conscience and beliefs above all. He also believes in staying true to his conscience, ââ¬Å" . . . yet God exists. In matters of conscience, the loyal subject is more bounden to be loyal to his conscience than to any other thing.â⬠(Bolt 92) This is Moreââ¬â¢s way of saying that he will be true to his conscience to the bitter end. More will not change his mind and go against his principles and he will not be

Pdhpe Essay- Sports Medicine Free Essays
Physical preparation is very important to enhance the well-being of an athlete and to ensure that it keeps the players fit and injury free during a long season of sport. Physical preparation involves ensuring the body is prepared for an activity that it is to be involved in. Proper physical preparation is a major aspect in the prevention of sports injuries. We will write a custom essay sample on Pdhpe Essay- Sports Medicine or any similar topic only for you Order Now There are many ways that a coach of a sports team can utilise physical preparation to enhance the wellbeing of the players. The preparation techniques include; conducting pre-screening, promoting particular skills and techniques that are required, developing physical fitness and following sufficient warm-up, stretching and cool-down procedures. Pre-screening is the first step to physical preparation for a sport or some sort of physical activity. It is an important preventative measure that is to be done before beginning an exercise. Pre-screening is done so that the coach/head person can determine the athleteââ¬â¢s current fitness level, goals and also to become familiar with the athleteââ¬â¢s medical history. This source of physical preparation is usually completed prior to joining a team sport e. g. Basketball, soccer, cricket, boxing and so on. It is also completed when joining a fitness club/organisation such as; a gym, aerobics, water aerobics, zumba and so on. Pre-screening allows exercise programs to be modified to the needs of the individual and with pre-screening being done, the coach will be able to know whats going on with each player because he will know the individuals medical history, health status, previous experience in physical activity and what their aiming to achieve. It will help the coach to know where the playersââ¬â¢ weakness and strengths are, and what areas theyââ¬â¢re struggling with. The next physical preparation method is skill and technique. Many sports injuries occur due to poor skill or technique. To ensure that athletes remain fit and active with no injury, the coach of the sports club needs to encourage appropriate skill and correct technique. The coach is responsible to ensure that the players theyââ¬â¢re in charge of are capable with the basic skills of the game, especially those relevant to self-protection. Poor skill and technique could cause major injuries to an individual, e. . a soccer player who is constantly running/jogging across the field and doesnââ¬â¢t wear appropriate footwear; it will cause them to have stress fractures in the foot. If the coach encourages the players to wear appropriate footwear and safety equipment, along with learning the basic competent skills, then it will keep players injury-free duri ng the long season. With this technique, the coach needs to be aware of other certain conditions and situations that may be hard to avoid and will need to modify the game location or other aspects affecting it such as wet conditions and slippery surfaces. The coach has a very important role to play in ensuring the safe movement of the athlete through the different stages of learning a skill. Another main important aspect of physical preparation is being physically active. The coach and players can work together and prevent injuries by placing special importance on developing the physical components specific to their activities. For example, a netballer needs to work on their speed, agility, coordination and strength in the legs. To develop their physical fitness level, the coach needs to do intense training sessions with the players to build their physical component skills. Coaches also have other things to be looking out for such as individuals who need specific physical preparation for various reasons which include; a previous injury, a medical condition, a disability, an identified personal playing weakness. Coaches and trainers need to be aware of these individual needs, and must provide for these differences in their physical preparation programs. For e. g. if a tennis player has a tennis elbow, you will have to work around them to not make it worse. One other physical preparation technique that is highly significant is ââ¬ËWarm-up, stretching and cool-downââ¬â¢. A warm-up prior to starting any physical activity prepares and heats your body up for physical training or competition. The coach should ensure that the warm-up routine focuses on the muscles and movements relevant to the activity. Also the coach should ensure that the warm-up period should last between 20 and 35 minutes. It is very important to encourage a warm-up routine before a physical activity to prevent injuries. This is done by increasing body and muscle temperature, stretch ligaments and muscles to allow greater flexibility. After a basic warm-up, the coach must make sure of a stretching routine for 10-15 minutes. If stretching is done properly, it will outcome in increased length of muscle, reduce muscle tension, increase blood circulation and improve joint movement. When stretching, the coach should encourage both the two types of stretching which are static and PNF stretching to get the best results. Then the final 10-15 minutes of the warm-up, the coach should involve more intense exercises such as sharp sprints, agility movements, modified games and skill/technique drills. For e. g. in soccer, it would be appropriate to do a dribbling activity. Finally, a cool-down routine is critical in physical preparation. Reason for this being, a cool-down is to help the body to change from the intense activity back to a normal state. A coach should ensure that a cool-down routine is followed after any physical activity because it will reduce muscle soreness and tightness and that will allow the athlete to recover more quickly. The coach should make the cool-down routine run for 2 minutes of jogging followed by 3-5 minutes of walking. A coach needs to obey and follow all the areas of physical preparation to keep his players injury-free for long seasons and thoroughly prepared to perform to their best of their ability. To get the best outcome possible, the coach will have to encourage each of these areas and to do it properly. All the above aspects are all as important as each other. You canââ¬â¢t do some and ignore the others, to be physically prepared and hope for no un-necessary injuries, you have to perform all the components required of physical preparation; otherwise you will develop injuries that could have been prevented. Rural Marketing Strategy by Colgate free essay sample
From a modest start in 1937, when hand-carts were used to distribute Colgate Dental Cream Toothpaste, Colgate-Palmolive (India) today has one of the widest distribution networks in India ââ¬â a logistical marvel that makes Colgate available in almost 4. 93 million retail outlets across the country. The Company has grown to a Rs. 2805 crore plus organization with an outstanding record of enhancing value for its strong shareholder base. The company leads the Rs. 5200 crore Indian toothpaste market by holding 53. 2% of the market share. This report details about the strategies that Colgate adapted in order to expand its market share. RURAL MARKET SCOPE IN INDIA According to the FDI World Dental Federation, in rural areas of India, the penetration of oral care products is just one third of that in urban areas. Here people predominantly clean their teeth with natural items like twigs of neem tree, salt and ash. One can conclude that a tremendous opportunity lies in the oral care market in rural India. We will write a custom essay sample on Rural Marketing Strategy by Colgate or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The Accenture report gives several indications, including increase in procurement prices resulting in greater purchasing power of rural population allowing consumers to buy discretionary goods. Between 2009 and 2012, spending in rural India reached US$69 billion, significantly higher than the US$55 billion spent by urban populations. Rural India accounts for about 50 percent of Indiaââ¬â¢s GDP and nearly 70 percent of Indiaââ¬â¢s population. STRATEGIES ADOPTED Colgate adopted the following marketing strategies for their low end product, Cibaca Top through which they entered rural segment: 1. ââ¬ËSamparkââ¬â¢ ââ¬â Promotion Strategy Sampark ââ¬â a specialist in rural advertising, was hired by Colgate to promote their product in the Indian hinterland. Main techniques used were door to door selling and use of publicity vans called A/V vans. These vans were placed at strategic areas on specific market days of different villages in order to access a wider audience. Local salesmen to breach the communication barrier, showcasing of educational films on oral hygiene were additional measures undertaken by Sampark. The major thrust of promotion was through schools and was in line with Colgateââ¬â¢s school dental education plan in collaboration with the Indian Dental Association called ââ¬Å"Young India, Bright Smiles, Bright Futuresâ⬠2. Van Model ââ¬â Distribution Strategy Colgate demanded its distributors to be ââ¬ËIntellisedââ¬â¢, i. e.à billing information should be computerized through the company software only. They distribute the product to wholesaler and retailer in the assigned rural area. The distributors are given instructions by the company regarding the frequency of visit to be made by the vans to a particular town. An average subsidy of 4% per van, is offered to the distributors based on thei r sales. Distributorââ¬â¢s vans take orders from the wholesalers and retailers on their route and deliver the same on their next scheduled visit. The company gives an initial 5% discount to its distributors, who are asked to provide 10% discount to the wholesalers and retailers. The loss incurred by the distributors is then reimbursed by the company. Thus overall, in order to attract distributor, the company gives extra 10% reimbursement credit on the price of goods sold to wholesalers retailers apart from 5% initial discount. And the wholesalers and retailers avail the margin of approx 15%. 3. Rs 8 Strategy: Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd. launched Cibaca Top at an affordable price point of Rs. 8 which was an instant hit, with Cibaca Top garnering a 5. 9 per cent share of the rural market. Cibaca targeted the low price segment that accounted for around 25% of total category volumes. Colgate Cibaca caters to low economy segment as a competitor to brands like Babool, Anchor etc. Consumers preferred Cibaca because of the low rates, flexibility and quality assurance. Moreover, as population and purchasing power of the individuals are increasing there is increased market for toothpaste industry. Apart from the above mentioned strategies, Colgate also decreased their expense on advertisement. Despite low sales in the years 03-05, the company experience increased net profit by decreasing their expenses on advertisement. This can be shown via exhibit number 1 and 2. The green coloured cells indicate the significant increase in the profit.

WWI BLAMES GERMANY essays

However, it is true that Germany did have responsibilities of starting the war, although she was not the one who sparked initial dispute. She was taking part in the imperialistic game, which made other overseas empires. She was building an enormous navy, which irritated wanted to maintain the 2 power standard. She was rising economically and which also antagonized the great powers of Europe. The attitude of Kaiser was a factor. The Schlieffen Plan also caused the outbreak of the Germany to declare war on France, who then was still neutral, and to step on soil, land which Britain swore to protect. ...

Depression Is Serious Effect of Racism on Children
Depression Is Serious Effect of Racism on Children Itââ¬â¢s often said that children donââ¬â¢t see race, but thatââ¬â¢s far from true; they not only see race but also feel the effects of racism, which can manifest as depression. Even pre-schoolers notice racial differences between groups, and as children age, they tend to separate themselves into race-based cliques, making some students feel alienated. More problems arise when children use racial stereotypes to bully their classmates. Being ridiculed, ignored or slighted because of race has a detrimental effect on children. Studies show that encountering racial bigotry can lead children to suffer from depression and behavioral problems. Racism can even lead teens and young adults to drop out of school. Sadly, the racial discrimination children experience doesnââ¬â¢t exclusively involve their peers, as adults are perpetrators too. The good news is that children with strong support systems can overcome the challenges racial bigotry presents. Racism, Depression, and Black and Latino Youths A 2010 study of 277 children of color presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting in Vancouver revealed a strong link between racial discrimination and depression. Roughly two-thirds of the study subjects were black or Latino, while another 19 percent were multiracial. Study lead Lee M. Pachter asked the youths if theyââ¬â¢d been discriminated against in 23 different ways, including being racially profiled while shopping or called offensive names. Eighty-eight percent of the kids said they had indeed experienced racial discrimination. Pachter and his team of researchers also surveyed the children about their mental health. They found that racism and depression go hand in hand. ââ¬Å"Not only do most minority children experience discrimination, but they experience it in multiple contexts: in schools, in the community, with adults and with peers,â⬠Pachter said. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s kind of like the elephant in the corner of the room. Itââ¬â¢s there, but nobody really talks about it. And it may have significant mental and physical health consequences in these childrenââ¬â¢s lives.â⬠Overcoming Bigotry and Depression The results of a five-year study conducted by researchers in California, Iowa, and Georgia found that racism can lead to depression and behavioral problems. In 2006, the study of more than 700 black youth appeared in the publication of Child Development. The researchers determined that children whoââ¬â¢d endured name-calling, race-based insults, and stereotyping were more likely to report trouble sleeping, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating, according to ABC News. Black boys victimized by racism were also more likely to get into fights or shoplift. The silver lining, however, is that children with supportive parents, friends, and teachers weathered the challenges of racism much better than their peers lacking such support networks. ââ¬Å"The outlook was brighter, though, for children whose homes, friends, and schools protected them from discriminationââ¬â¢s negative influences,â⬠said Gene Brody, the studyââ¬â¢s lead researcher, in a press release. ââ¬Å"Children, whose parents stayed involved in their lives, kept track of their whereabouts, treated them with warm affection, and communicated clearly with them, were less likely to develop problems due to their experiences with discrimination.â⬠Racism as a Source of Depression in Young Adults Teenagers and young adults are not immune to the effects of racism. According to the University of California, Santa Cruz, college students who experience racism might feel like outsiders on campus or pressure to prove the stereotypes about their racial group wrong. They might also suspect that theyââ¬â¢re being treated differently because of race and consider dropping out of school or transferring to another school to alleviate their symptoms of depression and anxiety. With one university after another making headlines in recent years when students organize parties with racially offensive themes, itââ¬â¢s likely that todayââ¬â¢s students of color feel even more vulnerable on campus than their predecessors did. Hate crimes, racist graffiti, and small numbers of minority groups in the student body may make a young adult feel completely alienated in academia. UCSC asserts that itââ¬â¢s important for students of color to practice good self-care to prevent racism from sending them into a depression. ââ¬Å"It may sometimes be hard to resist using unhealthy ways to cope, such as using drugs and alcohol excessively or isolating oneself from the broader community,â⬠according to UCSC. ââ¬Å"Taking good care of your physical, mental, and spiritual health will leave you better equipped to cope with the stress of bias, and make empowered choices for yourself.ââ¬
